| Dr. Prentiss is among the professional philosophers who are
pioneering a new kind of personal advising known as philosophical
counseling. This is an innovative kind of counseling, but it
traces its roots back at least 2500 years. Philosophical counseling
is advising on personal problems that can be addressed well
with a strong infusion of reflective, ethical, and logical thinking.
For example, a personal moral dilemma lends itself eminently
well to philosophical counseling. |

The optimism, creativity, and critical reflection that underlie
all of the services offered by Good Thinking Works ™ are
at the very heart of philosophical counseling, as we understand
it following the lead of Dr. Prentiss. Thus we are convinced that
it can be a very powerful resource in the effort to solve real human
problems. With this in mind, it is of the highest importance that
we distinguish philosophical counseling from other kinds of advising.
Philosophical counseling is not psychotherapy, legal advice, or
investment guidance. It is not medical advice or religious counseling.
We are not licensed in these areas, do not compete with those who
are, or practice an informal, unlicensed version of these kinds
of advising under another name, and we never will.
We offer a service to those who cannot find resolutions for their
concerns from highly competent and sincere practitioners in these
other fields. In doing this we are careful to keep our service distinct
from them. For this reason, it is our policy not to agree to provide
philosophical counseling until we are convinced that a prospective
client has a sincere informed belief that these other resources
are unlikely to generate a plausible solution.
